Commercial CCTV Installation in Mumbai: A Complete Guide for Businesses

Rajesh Dey12 January 20267 min read

Commercial CCTV is a different problem from home security. A retail store in Andheri, a warehouse in Bhiwandi, and a 12-floor corporate office in BKC each have their own coverage requirements, storage needs, and compliance considerations. Over 17 years of installing security systems across Mumbai — for everyone from single offices to 160+ Pantaloons stores Pan-India — we've learned that most commercial CCTV projects fail on planning, not hardware.

1. Start with a coverage audit, not a camera count

The most common mistake businesses make is asking "how many cameras do we need?" before anyone has walked the site. The right question is: which entry points, cash counters, server rooms, parking areas, and blind corners actually carry risk? A proper site audit maps every angle, identifies overlap and gaps, and only then arrives at a camera count and placement plan. This is also where you decide between dome cameras (better for indoor, harder to tell which way they're pointing), bullet cameras (visible deterrent, good for perimeters), and PTZ cameras (active monitoring of large open areas like parking lots or warehouse floors).

2. IP cameras have replaced analog for almost every commercial use case

Analog (HD-CVI/TVI) systems are still cheaper per camera, but for any site with more than 8–10 cameras, multiple floors, or remote monitoring requirements, IP cameras win on image quality, scalability, and remote access. We install IP systems from Hanwha Vision, Honeywell, Matrix, Axis Communications, Panasonic i-Pro, and Pelco depending on the budget and use case — for example our

  • Hanwha XNO-A8084R 5MP AI IR Bullet Camera for outdoor perimeters with 50m night vision
  • Panasonic i-Pro WV-S32302-F2L AI dome cameras for retail and office interiors
  • Honeywell HC50W45R2 series for rugged warehouse and industrial environments

are common starting points for commercial sites — see our full range on the products page

3. NVR storage planning is where most quotes go wrong

Storage requirements scale fast with camera count, resolution, and how long you're legally or operationally required to retain footage. A 16-channel 4K setup recording continuously needs dramatically more storage than the same setup on motion-triggered recording. We size NVR storage (like our Hanwha XRN-6410RB2 64-channel NVR for larger sites, or smaller XRN-426S-1T units for single-floor offices) based on actual retention requirements — typically 30 to 90 days for commercial clients in Mumbai, longer for banks, RBI-linked infrastructure, and government sites.

4. Don't skip the network and power backup

A CCTV system is only as reliable as its network and power supply. PoE (Power over Ethernet) switches simplify cabling for IP cameras but need to be sized correctly for the number of cameras and their power draw. For any site that can't afford downtime — retail during business hours, warehouses running 24/7 — a UPS backup for the NVR and PoE switch is non-negotiable; otherwise a 10-minute power cut means a 10-minute gap in your footage exactly when you might need it most. We typically spec this networking layer from Netgear, TP-Link, D-Link, CommScope, and Airpro depending on the site's scale.

Commercial security usually isn't just cameras. As authorised partners for Hanwha Vision, Honeywell, Matrix, Axis Communications, Panasonic i-Pro and Pelco on the camera side, Mantra and eSSL for biometric attendance and access control, and Netgear, TP-Link, D-Link, CommScope, Airpro and Alcatel for networking infrastructure, we can usually scope a full site — cameras, access control, and the network behind them — under one plan instead of three separate vendors.

5. Plan for remote access and multi-location monitoring from day one

If you're running more than one location — a retail chain, a chain of warehouses, a society management company overseeing multiple buildings — centralised VMS (Video Management Software) lets you monitor every site from one dashboard instead of logging into each NVR separately. This is the same architecture we used for the Aditya Birla Group's multi-store Pantaloons and Sugar Cosmetics rollout across India.
